Our History
Founded in 2017
Sacred Heart Secondary School, a Catholic co-educational institution and a citadel of high academic prominence and stardom is meticulously manned by the sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus' congregation under the leadership of the Superior General, Rev. Sr. Monica Omowimi Rowland together with her management team, among whom are: Rev. Sr. Felicitas Osunde, Rev. Sr. Gloria Itebhalumen, Rev. Sr Augustina Okorafor and Rev. Sr. Emilia Amah.
The school which officially resumed on the 11th of September, 2017 was committed into the capable hands of Rev. Sr. Gertrude Uloko SSH, a superlatively astute, dynamic, amiable, ebullient, erudite and indefatigable administrator of colossal magnitude. As the pioneer principal of the school, she has been steering the wheel of the school in the right direction.
The school started at the primary school site before it was relocated to its permanent site with a pontifical high mass celebrated by His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Obiora Akubueze and co-celebrated with other priests from within and outside the archdiocese on the 12th of September, 2019.
The school began with 11 students and 7 teachers. At present, and to the glory of God, the school has progressed geometrically to a population of 250 students and counting. With the influx of students who wrote our common entrance, the school will, by the grace of God, experience or records a boom or explosion in its population. In addition, the school has 26 well qualified teachers who know their onus and are masters in their respective fields. The non-academic staff numbering 10 takes care of the school by ensuring that it is neat as cleanliness is next to godliness.
Furthermore, the school is located in a serene and conducive environment that evokes learning. It has 18 very spacious, well lit and ventilated classrooms with fully equipped state of the art laboratories; Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Computer and Home economics, Visual/fine art and music studios for demonstrative or practical teaching.
In line with the school's motto: "Love, Dedication and Service" which was borne out of the love for the Sacred Heart of Jesus and guided by the Holy Spirit, the school is dutifully dedicated to diligence, all round spiritual, cognitive, psychomotor and affective dexterities of the students requisite for efficient and effective service delivery beneficial to all and sundry in society. Sacred Heart Secondary School as a Catholic and holistic institution observes every event or dates stated in the Catholic calendar such as Lent, Holy week, Marian National Celebrations, Carnivals etc.
Since her inception, the school has maintained a high level of academic excellence and prowess. Precisely, the school participated in French essay competition organized for schools in Edo state on the 28th of February, 2020, and emerged the overall winner.
Without relegating other arenas of learning or education to the background, the school engages her students in various co-curricular activities as all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. In this respect, the school has press, Junior Engineers, Technologists and Scientists (JETS) clubs and literary and debating society in a bid to prepare her students for a bright, glorious and promising future. The school has gone on several local and international excursions some of which are adumbrated below:
1. Excursion to Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS).
2. Excursion to Obudu Cattle Ranch in Cross River State.
3. Excursion to Delta State.
4. And internationally to countries like Ghana and Togo.
In extracurricular activities, Sacred Heart Secondary School is second to none. The school's maiden inter-house sports competition held in the month of April, 2020 and which attracted the presence of the world and his wife is an avowed attestation that the school will go places and blaze the trail in sports.
Inclusively, with the aforementioned land mark achievements of the school, the school has been successfully accredited and registered for WASSC Exam and National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO).
